Seán Morgan-Rooney is one of Ireland’s leading young piano talents today. A multi-faceted pianist, Seán performs as a soloist and chamber musician across Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands. He has appeared as a concerto soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Camerata Ireland Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the Torún Symphony Orchestra in Poland and the Hornton Chamber Orchestra in London.
Seán currently studies under David Kuyken as a Master’s student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He graduated with First Class Honours from the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied under Professor Christopher Elton. Prior to this he was a student of John O’Conor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.
Seán is the winner of numerous prizes for his solo playing, including the Charles J. Brennan Prize at the 10th Dublin International Piano Competition, the Else Cross prize for contemporary music awarded by the Royal Academy of Music and most recently a BBC NI Young Musicians’ Platform Award. He is also a past piano finalist of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.
Earlier this year, Seán released his début album entitled ‘Musica Ricercata’, a programme of solo piano music by Ligeti, Bach and Bartók.
